Doctors Bag: Drawing for Concept Artists

My finished doctor's bag scene painted from the beginning in colour and is comprised almost exclusively of brush marks some textured brushes and layer affects were used to achieve the cracking leather affect on the doctor's bag.

The objects have been modelled and positioned into an interesting composition. The scene is now ready for the paint over in Photoshop

For the final image I decided to create a quick low poly layout of all the objects I was going to use in the final image and then use these 3D assets to create an interesting composition.
Creating a 3D scene to paint over would aid me in creating a far more realistic painting as I don't need to worry about perspective or drawing the objects I simply need to capture the realism and the mood of a dark oil lit room and signs of usage during the doctors examination of the patient.

I created some object sheets drawn in Photoshop that focused on the geometry of the individual objects. This would help me better understand these objects when creating the assets for the final piece.

To start off this project I created a mood board containing various objects related to the assignment. Such as my chosen style of doctors bag medicine tubes and other miscellaneous tools.

I chose a rather old style of trepanning kit with a very artistically pleasing appearance to its tools. This was a staple of the Victorian age, artistic design and practicality fused into wonderfully delicate tools that did the job and looked good doing it

For this assignment brief I was given the task of creating a Victorian doctors' bag complete with a trepanning kit.
The primary requirement for this assignment was to render the final image as realistic as possible using what ever methods and techniques at our disposal.

I began this assignment by collecting as many reference images as possible for all the equipment and tools a Victorian doctor would require.
The style of bag I found myself interested in was a rather large and box shaped bag with a flexibly top that folded nicely to either side to allow the doctor easy assesses to the tools and medicines inside.
